Most students are involved in research throughout the course of the Psychology program. All of these research experiences strengthen a student’s graduate school or professional applications.

奖学金

As part of the psychology student experience, students are eligible for fellowships through the 麦克奈尔学者计划. Students may also participate in honor societies and often earn awards for their achievements in the department and in our greater world.

出国留学

Today, cross-cultural understanding is as much a practical necessity as an educational standard. Study abroad is an embodiment of the liberal arts ideals and a sign of the initiative and breadth often looked for by employers.

Psychology students are encouraged to study abroad. Many choose to take courses in psychology while studying abroad and some have even contributed to research while abroad.

Experiential and service-learning initiatives help students grasp the critical thinking skills necessary for a psychology career while gaining real-world experience.

Psychology majors earn course credit and explore clinical settings or off-campus research topics through hands-on field experience. Placements vary and are arranged in consultation with professor Carolyn Becker. Recent placements include the Rape Crisis Center; Juvenile Probation; Child Safe, which provides advocacy for child sexual abuse survivors; the United Way Helpline; American Sunrise, which provides after school educational support to underserved children; 圣安东尼奥 State Hospital; and a variety of research positions at the Health Science Center.

啤酒实习

Some 啤酒实习 focus on psychology-related placements such as at Connections Individual and Family Services, the Battered Women’s shelter, Stone Oak 的rapy center and autism sites.

的 心理学俱乐部 is a student-led group for any students, 主修或非主修, interested in psychology. Students get together periodically to learn more about psychology and get to know each other and faculty better in informal settings. 的 club and the department sponsor a fall picnic, a field trip (e.g., 国立医院), dinner out with the faculty, a brown bag interdisciplinary talk, an end-of-the-year party.
