On October 3-14 and April 1-8, Trinity will host Space Week, a series of academic and social events to celebrate an annular (“ring of fire”) eclipse on October 14 and a total eclipse on April 8, 2024 that will cross North America and darken the skies over the San Antonio region. An annular eclipse occurs when the Moon covers the Sun, leaving just a small portion of the Sun peeking out, which looks like a ring of fire.
Both Space Weeks honor the human-space relationship and will examine human beings’ physical, intellectual, and spiritual interactions with the cosmos from diverse perspectives.
This fall, Space Week will culminate on October 14, the day of the annular solar eclipse. On that day, Trinity will host an Eclipse Festival on campus from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. that will feature family friendly arts, crafts and science demonstrations, rooftop viewing of the eclipse by telescope, and a mock representation of the solar system on campus.
Please note that city officials expect heavy traffic around Bexar County on the day of the eclipse due to inbound travelers. Be sure to leave home early to attend Trinity’s Eclipse Festival. All events are free of charge and no registration is required.
